Milaap – My endeavour to extend a hand.

It was recently, through indiblogger that I came to know of Milaap. And I presumed that most of the people around here wouldn’t have heard about it either. I have always wanted to do some kind of social service but did not know where to begin. Being a student, providing financial help was out of question. I know many people who are willing to do some kind of social service but do not know where to begin. While doing services through mediators, the main question that arises is, whether the service we do reaches the deprived. The benefit of Milaap is that, not only we get an answer to this question but we are repaid too. Let me make it clear.

Milaap is an online organisation that helps people all over the world to fund communities or people who are in need of basic amenities. It helps the end borrowers obtain loans at low costs. It doesn’t end here. The loans are repaid to the lenders too. Through this, the lender can be sure that the borrower recieves the money. Refer here for more details.

While you are sitting on a comfortable chair, in an AC room, browsing the net, have you ever imagined a situation where you neither had sanitation facilities nor potable drinking water? It gets even more complicated for women if there are no toilets or sanitation facilities. Here is the profile of Kavitha and group. They hail from Musiri in Tamil Nadu. The community lacks basic amenities of potable drinking water and safe sanitation. As it is given in the profile, they want to borrow a sum of Rs. 45000 for building four toilets & obtaining a water connection. They have already been funded two-thirds of the sum they requested for by various lenders.

While I browsed through various profiles in Milaap requesting funds for lighting house, buying machinery, animals & other requirements to make a living, the requests for sanitation & drinking water was what caught my attention the most. I felt their necessity must be urgent. It would not only be difficult to live in stinking surroundings without proper facilities, it would be absolutely unhygienic too. This is the reason why I picked one of those profiles.

Many of you might click onto my blog link, start reading & halfway through, you may get bored and leave. Out of the others who managed to read until this point, few may not be in a position to lend. My request to you is to share this message & make the difference. That little gesture of yours may help someone. 🙂 To others who are capable of lending & willing to lend, you can either lend to this profile or any other profile. There are many options in the Milaap site. Also, do share the message.

Thank you for your patient reading. Fingers crossed in the hope of making a positive change in atleast one person’s life. 😀
